To be honest, I was not thinking of buying Dear Darling Water Tint by Etude House at all. I actually set my sight on buying from another brand. Mainly because their physical store happens to be at a mall I frequent a lot. Unfortunately, this brand discontinued their lip tint just as I decided I would like to purchase one. What terrible luck!
And so, I bought Dear Darling Water Tint by Etude House after carefully perusing other brand’s lip tint. Why Etude House you’d say? Frankly, I happen to be loitering around their store at Sunway and coincidentally work out the effort to buy a lip tint after thinking for far too long on whether I should or should not buy.
Well, if you are curious to know whether I truly should or should not buy, read on to know my final verdict on Dear Darling Water Tint by Etude House.
My History With Lip Tint
Dear Darling Water Tint by Etude House was not my first lip tint product, ever. This is probably my second because I remember not to vividly how I asked a friend to buy me my very first lip tint by Tony Moly directly from Korea. I think this happened maybe during 2015 or 2016?
During that time, lip tint was not as famous as it was today. The K-Pop movement was already starting. Mind you I was into K-Beauty way before it was named as K-Beauty. I am that old, I know…
Dear Darling Water Tint (01 Strawberry Ade) By Etude House
Dear Darling Water Tints are available in three colors:
- 01 Strawberry Ade
- 02 Cherry Ade
- 03 Orange Ade
I picked 01 Strawberry Ade because I am too scared of orange tone lip tint. 01 Strawberry Ade had a pink tone which is the most common color out of the three. It has a sweet strawberry smell which I am okay with. The scent will disappear after a while.
There are probably many ways to apply a lip tint. Applying the tints in the middle and inside of your lips and smacking the lips a few times to spread the leftover tint out will probably be the standard method.
It will produce a “I sucked a red lollipop” or “I just drank some super red colored drinks and currently sporting a red stain”.
But for me, I prefer the lip tint as a form of lip stain that lasts longer than a lipstick but not drying like a liquid lipstick. To me, lip tint gives a kind of stain that appears more natural and less obvious, if you know how to apply it right.
My Way With The Stain
First, I will first apply the Dear Darling Water Tint on my top lip and spreading the tint all over my top lip. Wait a few seconds before smacking. If I want a stronger color, I will reapply at the top lip again and do another lip-smacking.
Oh yes, sometimes I will do some lip smacking accompanied by some finger dabbing as well. And the stain will transfer most strongly on my finger too.
Wondering why the top lip first? I noticed that if I apply at the bottom lip first, the stain will stain strongly on the bottom lip and refuse to show much color on the top lip after some lip smacking. It is so weird and even weirder if I ever go out sporting that looks. So unbalance.
And so, I must apply at top lip first, always.
Texture and Performance
Dear Darling Water Tint has a watery texture. You must apply a little bit at a time or else the tint might drip. Although I think the dripping thing is kind of extreme. But you will feel a bit watery when you first apply. An unusual texture considering lip products are either balmy, waxy, sticky or drying.
If you are thinking that this lip stain will last and last. You are wrong. It does not. But then again, I always do the “trying to get a natural look”. It is not surprising when the lip stain will not last as long as I hoped.
However, I do believe that if you apply the lip tint a few times and get a strong stain, your lip color will last longer. To each their own, I guess.
For me, Dear Darling Water Tint is quite affordable. 10g can last you a while and it is like a cheap dupe for Benetint by Benefit. Aside from lip, you can also apply it as a cheek stain too. A two in one product, a bargain I’d say!
Unfortunately, in Malaysia they are not available online at their official Lazada and Shopee Official Store or even Hermo. You got to go out and walk to their store unless if you don’t mind buying from a third party seller. But Lazada, Shopee, and Hermo do carry plenty of other lip tints from Etude House.
Applying the lip tint to get the right balance needs some practice and quick timing. Woe betide those who have chapped lips because the stain will settle stronger on the chapped parts and it will give an uneven look.
Do I like it?
I do. Most of the time, I do not like to apply lipstick because it will leave marks on my cup and tumbler. Wearing a lip stain will solve that problem once and for all. After applying Dear Darling Water Tint I will apply a lip balm and off I go.
