Anyone wondering what is Ghar Soap? Some who practice a minimalist lifestyle seems to love it as an all-purpose soap. Well, I get to wonder that as well. So I bought my first Ghar Soap last year from Nudezerowaste offline store to test out.
I bought my first bar at an offline store. Actually I did not plan on buying the soap at all. However while browsing, I saw the soap and I was curious. I mean, who doesn’t, right? It was in a rectangle shape and bigger than the regular soap. Sign me up!
I bought mine for RM35 and yes, its a bit more expensive than other handmade soap. It has 3 simple ingredients:
- Olive Oil
- Laurel OIl
Laurel Oil %
I took to reading a bit about Ghar soap and there a difference between each soap. It all goes down to the percentage of laurel oil. The more percentage of Laurel oil used to make the soap, the more expensive the price of the soap will be.
First Impression Using Ghar Soap
Base on the picture that I shared, the soap is almost as big as my palm. So…its not very easy to use. I have seen a lot of people just hack the soap into 2 pieces by using pestle and a knife. As much as I like the smaller soap, hacking a soap took some practice and so far, there are some small pieces broken from the main two pieces. The sliver of soap can be a bit small to use and can be a waste.
The soap has a good lather but did not dry out my skin which is really good. Its a bit soapy though. What I mean is that you need to get used t this soap leaving some soapy feeling on the skin, so different from the clean and tight feeling that you get from other soap bars.
However, there is something extra about this soap that could be a deal-breaker to some people. It is the scent. It has a peculiar scent. I can say that it smells like a light earthy scent??? Till today, I just can’t describe the scent correctly.
Well, if you have a delicate nose, then this soap might not be your cup of tea. For me, I love the scent of the soap because:
- No artificial fragrance used
- Scent does not linger after use
Currently, I am on my 5th bar of Ghar Soap. After my first purchase, I continue to buy online from made.bythemaker. I just DM the owner to order. Already bought twice from the owner. The second time, I bought 3 bars (a bit smaller) for RM80. A bargain. Yess!!
I like this soap but I only use it as a body soap. Some other ways the soap can be used:
- Shaving soap
- Hair shampoo
- Face cleanser
- Dish washing soap
- Laundry soap
For me? I just use it as a body soap. I did try it on my face and hair but…naaah…not for me.
If you plan on buying this soap, I suggest:
- Don’t cut the soap. Just use a loofah to transfer the soap so you don’t have to hold a big ass soap.
- Do an apple cider vinegar rinse on your hair if you wish to use the soap as shampoo. Its to get rid of the waxy, course feeling on the hair. Might work for some, not me though.
- Patch test on a small spot on your face just to make sure you did not get any weird side effects from using this soap as a face cleanser.
Let me tell you, not everyone can do the one soap as all-purpose soap. If it does not work for you, then its totally okay, okay? No pressure.
