Rirana perfume came to my attention by accident, I think. Because I cannot really remember how I found out about this brand. I suspect it came from an ad on Instagram. I was curious and so I clicked it. And that was the short story on how I ended up buying their Discovery Set. I bought two sets! Yearghh….
Introduction to Rirana Perfume
Now The Long Story
I have long admired Le Labo Fragrances. Hello Santal 33 anyone?? I am super itchy to know what Santal 33 smells like. Unfortunately, Le Labo Fragrances are not available here in Malaysia.
And then lo and behold, Rirana Perfume Instagram ad catches my eyes. Why, because their sample’s packaging almost resembles Le Labo Fragrances.
According to their website, they claim their perfumes are unisex, environmentally friendly and used cruelty-free ingredients. Rirana Perfumes are also free from parabens, phthalates, preservatives, additives, and any other harmful or non-sustainable substances. Good to know.
Two Reasons To Buy
To be honest, perfumes are very subjective. Even though many people describe into minutes details about what it smells like and how it changes when they spray it on the skin. We can not know until we try it ourselves.
Since Rirana Perfume has samples, of course, I am curious to try them out. If you live near their offline store, save yourself some money by going and sampling the perfumes there instead.
They have two sets of samples, Discovery Set A and B. Each set has 5 samples, 5ml each, cost RM70.
Regular Eau de Parfum/ Parfum de Toilette has an aromatic compound concentration between 10 – 30%. Rirana Perfume claims to have between 60% to 70% essential oils and the rest is alcohol denat. That is way more than what we commonly see in the market. So I thought, this is different than other local perfume brands. I simply have to try.
Set A consist of:
- Oriental Orchid
- Iris Ambrette
- Honey Amber
- Salty Citrus
Set B consist of:
- Plus Rose
- Vanilla Tobacco
- Spices Oud
- Salty Citrus
- Iris Ambrette
I bought both sets a long time ago, by now the Discovery Set might be different than in this blog. And they also introduce a new perfume called Wood Cereal.
Individual Perfume Review
Main accords: Woody, Balsamic, Oud
Main notes: Sandalwood, Rosewood, Cardamom, Tonka Bean, Oud, Amber
I think this is one of the perfume that although unisex, has the most ‘smell like a men perfume’ out of all the other perfume in the collection. I love cardamom. I used to own a face serum by Antipodes called Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin Plumping Serum and their combination of rose, lavender and cardamom were heavenly, especially the cardamom.
In this, I can not detect that cardamom as much, probably because it is competing with other strong main notes in the perfume.
Main accords: Warm spicy, Sweet, Floral, Balsamic
Main notes: Orchid, White Flower, Tuber, Patchouli, Cacao, Incense
One of the more feminine perfume, it has a strong orchid, white flower smell with a hint of incense at the end. Definitely has a sweet smell, not the sugary sweet kind though, thank god.
Main accords: Woody, Floral, Powdery, Musky
Main notes: Iris, Ambrette, Lavender, Cedarwood, Vetiver
This perfume is quite feminine in my opinion. The iris and ambrette combinations are rather new to me. I even googled what ambrette supposed to smell like. Ambrette is likened to babies and mother’s smells. Used as a plant-based substitute for animal musk.
It does indeed has that floral powdery smell. Honestly, I am not sure what to make of Iris Ambrette but I am sure it has its own fans.
Main accords: Honey, Sweet, Warm Spicy
Main notes: Honey, Amber, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Patchouli, Oud
When you see oud, it will be the star, that’s for sure. Even though its name is Honey Amber, you will not be able to smell that sweet honey smell as much. But it still sweet and I can smell the spiciness from the oud and cinnamon combinations.
Main accords: Fresh, Salty, Aromatic
Main notes: Grapefruit, Lime, Bergamot, Sage, Basil, Iris, Vetiver
The first thing that you get is a blast of citrus, which I adore because I like the citrus smell so much. But then, the citrus smell does not last for long. To be expected since they are mostly the top notes. The drydown was not to bad either, although how I wish and wish for a more citrusy perfume.
Main accords: Fruity, Floral, Spicy
Main notes: Plum, Rose, Raspberry, Melon, Patchouli, Amber, Cloves
Another feminine-ish perfume, in my opinion. A sweet rose smells. Reminds me of Lovely Lace rose smell except more classy. I can totally smell the plum and raspberry sourness but in a good way.
Main accords: Sweet, Tobacco, Vanilla
Main notes: Tobacco, Vanilla, Cacao, Tonka Bean
Curiously, I cannot detect any tobacco at all. Or is it just me? A sweet smelling perfume. But not that teenager, cloyingly sweet. This is not an outright vanilla smell that we are used to. More of a combination of vanilla, cacao and tonka bean done right. I detect a bit of powdery, oud as well.
Main accords: Oud, Woody, Warm Spicy
Main notes: Oud, Cinnamon, Guaiac Wood, Pink Pepper, Vetiver
Out of all the samples, this one eludes me the most when it comes to describing how it smells like. I just could not figure out exactly what I am sensing. Maybe because I am not sure what Guaiac wood and pink pepper truly smell. I do smell something sweet and powdery as well.
As I said previously, the thing that first attracts me is the sample’s packaging. Almost like Le Labo Fragrances. The sample’s packaging is small and I had no problem with leakage. I put them in the same container as my cotton pads for facial toner and the perfume smell permeates into all the pads. Strong stuff.
However, I do not like their 50ml packaging. I think it is too messy and unnecessary. A simple glass bottle would be better.
Oh I almost forgot, the samples came in a wooden box, with dried flower petals in it. I mean it would have been nice, if you like that kind of stuff. Not me though, I prefer a simple cardboard box with no flower petals please.
Strong. One spray is all I need. If you have a stronger body odor, I suggest trying out 2 spritzes. Too many and you might start to annoy people around you with a lingering perfume smell.
Most of the perfumes are either warm, powdery or woody. Definitely heavy and that is why it’s sillage is very strong.
For me, I actually prefer citrus, green and light. When you put all three together, the most I can get out of it is an Eau de Toilette which incidentally does not last long. Bummer! My favorites so far are Loccitane Verbena and Khiels Vetiver & Black Tea.
I wish Rirana Perfume would make something like the above. Less warm, spicy, woody and oud but more citrusy and green.

How To Purchase
I clicked on their website and went to the reseller and partners. There, I pick where I am based at and then randomly pick any WhatsApp numbers available and try to contact them.
I had some trouble because most did not have ready stocks and some reply so late to the point where I do not bother with them anymore. To tell you a secret, I almost gave up until someone took the time to actually talk to me properly.
Maybe next time, I order directly from HQ. That would be best. Rirana Perfumes are also available on Shopee. I think buying from Shopee would be better than trying to order by WhatsApp.
Rirana Perfumes are really good stuff. Sadly, just not my taste. If they decide to go with something that is more my style, I am happy to try it out because I know when it comes to quality, they are good.
Thinking of trying out their samples? Go ahead. If you plan on trying just one or two samples, currently that option is not available which sucks sometimes because I really do not need two Salty Citrus and Iris Ambrette. Wished they could sell singles too. I will pay extra postage for singles rather than have multiples of the same samples.
